What Makes a Good Toy?
This is an intriguing video from Sudarshan Khanna, the former Professor of design at National Institute of Design. In the video, Mr. Khanna explains the process of developing a toy by comparing some his favorite toys with those of a modern design.
Early on, he gives an example of a complex modern toy made of plastic and compares it to a very simple toy that has been around for thousands of years. As he goes through each example of his favorite folk toys, he explains some of the values and lessons each toy gives a child. My favorite is the one with bamboo that teaches a bit of sensitivity.
